CITY OF CATERPILLAR (USA)
This is the their first time ever in the Europe! Earlier this year, the band played a couple of insane, sold out reunion shows in the USA, to celebrate the re-issue of their debut full length, from which the original pressing has been unavailable for a decade now! City of Caterpillar’s groundbreaking full length LP got released 14 years ago following up a various releases like a split 7“ with Page99, a ltd demo/live LP on ADAGIO830 in 2002 and various other things. They have been one of the first bands to successfully merge post-rock and hardcore together, with complex and intense build-ups that led into bursts of rage and chaos. City Of Caterpillar’s short lived existence from 2000 – 2003 has had a major influence on the hardcore/punk scenes since the original release of this LP back in 2002. They were able to capture the dynamic sounds of Godspeed! You Black Emperor with bands like Portraits of Past and Pg. 99. City of Caterpillar shared members with Pg. 99. Members went onto bands such as Iron Reagan, Darkest Hour, Highness, Malady, Haram and Ghastly City Sleep.
PARTISAN (BE – Hypertension Records)
Partisan departs from the norm. While the band members may be known for past and current HC and metal-derived projects (Rise and Fall, Oathbreaker), this is not more of the same. With their post-punk inspired sound, driven by noisy, yet clean and bright guitars and pulsating bass, Partisan channel influences from their collective musical pasts into songs that deliver their power and urgency through texture, dynamics and dark melody. Massive noise, reverb and distortion but always with a melodic approach and a keen sense of songcraft and dynamics. Dark hypnotic poptunes that beguile and bewilder, drowned in fuzz and reverb, not unlike The Jesus and Mary Chain / Killing Joke / The Wipers / A Place To Bury Strangers.
