ROLO TOMASSI (UK – Holy Roar Records)
Rolo Tomassi may have been referred to as the north of Englands best kept secret, although theyre not going to be a secret for much longer. With five tracks and a short piano piece clocking in at just under 25 minutes, the band are set to smash any preconceptions you may have had about a) extreme and spazzy music and b) the band themselves and their age. Far more evolved than the constraints of jazzy noise or synth-screamo, Rolo Tomassi leap confidently from genre to genre. Moments of oddly-timed chaos flow comfortably into sanguine prog-rock workouts, otherworldly, alien noises sit happily alongside bass-led doom riffs. Its eclectic stuff – without ever sounding disjointed.

EMPLOYED TO SERVE (UK – Holy Roar Records)
Starting out as a two-piece bedroom project, Employed To Serve released two EP’s through Grindcore Karaoke, the label run by Jay from Agoraphobic Nosebleed, before adding Jamie, James and Robbie into the mix. The first product of this unification is the ‘Change Nothing, Regret Everything’ 12″, a musical open letter to those who despise their current situation, yet, do nothing to alter it. With a raucous sound that’s chaotic and bleak in equal measures, the gut wrenching vocals of Justine Jones ensure that every single lyric is delivered with the animosity the protagonist was intended to feel

MARY FIELDS (NL)
Mary Fields is a hyper energetic mathcore 5-piece from the Netherlands. They amuse and amaze. The sky is not the limit it’s a lie! So says the Jazz influenced mathcoreband Mary Fields. Disarray and madness combined with sheer musicality and the boldness to cross lines is what Mary Fields is percieved as. On Stage Mary Fields is a band with a reputation, bringing you maniacal vocals, smooth and/or upbeat jazz rythms, and enough dissonance to make Mother Theresa go batshit-crazy.

FALL OF MESSIAH (FR – UFV Records)
This french post-hardcore band with strong math-rock hints and screamo feels worked on this album for over two years and the result is a brilliant concept album mixing genres and sounds. Constantly surprising us and renewing their style, the band switches between chaotic maths riffs, slow powerful rhythms and mind-blowing emotional parts, cleverly arranged with their obvious musical skills.
