Self Defense Family (US – Deathwish Inc.)

Self Defense Family is a prolific post-everything musical collective with members from around the globe. The band has several full-lengths, EPs and splits, most notably 2015’s Heaven Is Earth LP (Deathwish Inc.) which Steregum described as “riddled with introspective moments that are minimally arranged for optimal impact.”

SLEEP KIT (DE/NL – Big Scary Monsters)

This band, a co-op by friends from the most western part of Germany, Aachen, and the most eastern part of the Netherlands, Maastricht, decided to get it down in 2012 and start writing their first EP influenced by the almighty punk band JAWBREAKER, the noise rock icons SONIC YOUTH, the great Seattle based band LYNC and a DIY ethos that all of the members internalized growing up in the alternative (music) scene. They were all involved in punk culture and music in general (volunteering in socio-political autonomous places or setting up shows) and played with other bands before they decided to form SLEEP KIT. This helped starting up from scratch with a completely new sound they describe as “aggressive, melancholic, melodic, sometimes apathetic, dreamy and instinctive.”

SLOW WORRIES (NL – Graanrepubliek Records)

You could say Slow Worries are an indierockband. The songs reflect their shared love for early 90s indie and pop, combining dreamy melodies with solid dissonance. While taking cues from the likes of Helium, The Spinanes & Slant 6, their 2 guitars/drums lineup betrays a post-hardcore influence as well. Slow Worries members have cut their teeth in bands like New YX, Pony Pack, Dusty Blinds & Houses.
