JC Den Eglantier, Zillebekelaan 6, Antwerp

TURNOVER (USA – Run For Cover Records)

Turnover’s previous full-length, 2015’s Peripheral Vision, won acclaim for showcasing a dreamier side of the band’s melodically-charged sound; Billboard noted that “the quartet has morphed into a moody, atmospheric indie rock band, without losing its knack for hooks.” As easy as it might have been to replicate that success for its third album, the band resisted the urge to play it safe. Excited by the opportunities for personal and creative growth the band experienced in the wake of Peripheral Vision, they worked hard to strike a balance for its follow-up. As the range of textures, tempos, and dynamics on Good Nature hints, the members of Turnover have been listening to a wider range of musical styles over the past couple years. Vintage Southern soul and blues, Bossa nova and cool jazz, electronic music, and psychedelic grooves all filtered into the mix.

Emotional is the spiritual manifestation of songwriter, singer, director, and Death Records founder Brian Wakefield. Wakefield, a San Jose native, has been a humble mainstay in the San Francisco music community since the early ‘00s, working with various bands, most notably the “dream pop quartet” Melted Toys. Wakefield has also served as a sideman in many local projects. Emotional was initially embarked upon as an experimental side pop project to Melted Toys—it now serves as the signature vessel for Wakefield’s personal songwriting.

Palladino is a New York based R&B band from Brooklyn, formed in 2017. Consisting of Justin Gilman (vocals, bass) and Ian Hurdle (drums), the two met while playing together in indie rock band, Diamond Youth (Topshelf Records).

SLOW CRUSH (BE – Flood Records)

Slow Crush is the next talented Indie export to come out of Belgium, following in the footsteps of peers as Newmoon and Brutus. Lead by their amazing vocalist Isa Holliday they manage to create a sound that is both haunting and enchanting at the same time. The band 4 like minded souls coming together to find a way to cope with negativity and failure in a fucked up world.
