MEWITHOUTYOU (USA – Run For Cover Records)
It is no mistake that mewithoutYou have become one of today’s most fascinating experimental rock acts. The last 15 years have borne witness to the Philadelphia five-piece exercising stylistic evolutions and aerial dynamics with humbling dexterity and untamed ambition. At their roots may be a theatrical progressive punk/post-hardcore band, but they’ve never been content to remain comfortably within a familiar genre. Their continuous multi-directional movements have left them increasingly difficult to classify, the growth of their branches impossible to predict. Their first full-length is turning 15. For this occassion they are taking a day off from their tour with Paramore, to celebrate this anniversary with us.
IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO THE CAT (BE)
If Anything Happens to the Cat is a five-piece indie orchestra from Ghent, Belgium. Their music is an unpredictable mix between post-rock, shoegaze and indie rock. Every song is a journey: through intertwining layers of guitars and synths, past flashes of vocals and guest instruments, often culminating into crushingly emotional climaxes. In 2012 they recorded a first demo-EP in their rehearsal room. The band’s first studio album ‘Sun Drunk Moon’ has been described by critics as a unique, adventurous and technically masterful take on the post-rock genre. They recorded the follow-up to this album in the summer of 2016. ‘Mångata’, released September 9th 2017, marks the band’s first steps into new territories including heavier, more synth-based arrangements tied together by cohesive lyrical themes dealing with water, drowning and staying afloat. Stylistically the band took a different approach than on ‘Sun Drunk Moon’ focusing more on beefing up their sound, producing a more technical yet more melodically layered record.
The origin of Arson took place in the spring of 2016 when members of various Ghentian metal and screamo bands came together and wanted to tear away from the subcultures where they had been in for years. Time for a something new. Time for good old fashioned screaming guitars, tight drums and intense vocals. For fans of The Ghost of a Thousand, Every Time I Die, John Coffey, Gallows, The Refused, Cancer Bats, Kvelertak, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, … This will be Arson’s baptism. You might recognize some faces from bands such as Soul Grip, Atlas and Anti-Icon.
